Tidings Of Comfort & Joy

If it is true, that a change is as good as a holiday, we should consider ourselves blessed to experience the colors, scents and sights our change of seasons bring.  As outside becomes a frozen scene of winter white, and we loose our outdoor living spaces, our homes too, can reflect the mood and colors of the season.  As the temperature drops, just as we layer our clothing to brace against winter’s chill, we can change the mood of our home to embrace us in warmth and comfort during the winter months.  Replace lighter colored throw cushions with warm rich colors and textures like  velvets,  felts and wool.  Add a throw and you have created an inviting and cozy place to relax on a cold December night.    Create an inviting landscape on your coffee table of books, candles and perhaps a decorative bowl, filled with bright Christmas oranges.

Christmas waves a magic wand over this world and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful.

Norman Vincent Peale

Add a twist to your Christmas decorating this year by adding timeless and classic Toile Fabric.  Black and White Toile fabric, trimmed in red piping, can be cut into strips and made into bows or garland to adorn your tree.  Or, use the fabric as runners under large red candles for a stunning look on your Christmas table.  Drop Ornate Christmas balls from your ceiling, hung with ribbon above your dining table.  Sparkling clear balls suspended with fishing line will appear to float, spinning and sparkling as your guests enjoy dinner.  For a contemporary interior, opt to trade a traditional decorated Christmas tree for a simpler more minimal look.  In a corner place a grouping of three trees, all different in height, and simply light with mini lights.  On a  mantle or any surface, place 3 (or 5) tall cylinder vases, fill with water, add a floating candle and submerge artificial flowers or greens (Hot glued to the bottom) or a handful of natural holly greens with berries or bright red cranberries could float in the water.  Any Simple Detail Repeated 3 or 5 times, always looks contemporary and clean.  Fill your home with the sparkle and warmth of the holiday season and remember:

One of the most glorious messes in the world is the mess created in the Living Room on Christmas day, don’t clean it up too quickly.
